Vtg Bearcat Model BCH 8 CH FM Monitor Receiver Radio Scanner for sale in Marion, IN
*POWERS UP AND SEEMS TO WORK* You are looking at a vintage 1968 monitor FM receiver radio scanner from Electra Corporation of Cumberland, Indiana USA ~ the Bearcat Business Radio Receiver Model BCH. I am listing it for "parts only" just because I am no electronics genius and this has not been used in quite a while ~ it does power up, makes noise and all of the red lights for the channels work, except for #8, I don't know if the crystals that it has are good for your town, they are not marked for frequency, except for two, it comes with its "External Ant.", 6 foot long cord with 4 pin male Jones plug and I noticed it also has a toggle switch on the front to the left of the speaker that flips up & down, but I don't know what that is other than it seems to make the "noise" sound a bit deeper and further away, the other scanners like this one don't have it (I briefly took off the bottom plate to show you what is inside and you can see the extra white wires for the toggle switch). I have not been able to tune in any channels and hear any people speaking on it, although I think everything works. It is 9" wide x 6 3/4" deep x 4 1/8" tall and it weighs 4 pounds, 6 ounces before packaging for shipping. Excerpts from the Manual that I don't have: Frequency Range: 150-174 Megahertz Capable of receiving eight fixed frequency channels (when eight crystals are installed) within a 10 Megahertz spread. The feature which makes if fascinating and different is the automatic scan and manual channel select facility. It may be programmed to sample or scan 8 fixed frequency channels, lock on the first channel which becomes active and continue to scan when the carrier is discontinued. The scanner may be disabled and the channel selected manually when desired. The receiver may be installed in an automobile or used as a fixed station device by selecting either of the two power cables. The most recent developments in solid state circuitry are incorporated in the receiver (1968). Insulated gate field effect transistors are used in the front end to minimize cross modulation and spurious signals. There are six integrated circuits ued in the switching and limiter-discriminator circuits. Specifications: Power Input: 117 VAC, 6 watt idling, 9 watts maximum; 12.6 VDC, 15A Idling, .37A maximum; 2 Power cables (capable). Power Out: 2 watts. Motorola Type connector accepts standard auto antenna lead in (supplied with this unit).Outside antenna may be used with 50 ohm coax. Input Impedance: 50-70 ohms. Sensitivity: +-5 KC deviated signal readable at .3 microvolt; 1 microvolt for 20 DB quieting: 1 microvolt for 20 DB signal to noise ratio. Crystals: Miniature plug in type which may be installed or shifted around to suit the user. Auto Use: (missing the original brackets for under dash auto mounting). The 12.6 VDC power cable connects to "ACCESSORY" fuse block or regulator "RADIO" fuse block. Front Panel Controls: Squelch; Volume with power switch; Manual-scan switch; Channel select switch; 8 Pilot lamps to read out active channel (#8 burned out on this unit). Operating instructions: 1. Turn the receiver "ON" by rotating the volume control knob to the right (clockwise). 2. Turn the volume control knob to a well advanced position. 3. Set the "MANUAL"-"SCAN" switch to "MAN". 4. Adjust the squelch control clockwise until the rushing noise is heard. Then adjust the squelch control counterclockwise until the rushing noise disappears. 5. Press the "CHANNEL"-"SELECT" switch downward and continue to step through all channels. If the noise should "break the squelch" on any channel adjust the squelch control counterclockwise again slightly to quiet the receiver. THIS MUST BE DONE BETWEEN STATION TRANSMISSIONS. 6. The "CHANNEL"-"SELECT" switch may now be used to select and monitor any desired channel. 7. To sample all channels automatically, return the "MAN"-"SCAN" switch to "SCAN".
