Registered- Nurse Manager

The Inpatient Nurse Manager is directly accountable to the Chief Nurse. He/she is accountable for writing and adhering to established policies, standards of care, and standards of practice. He/she uses the nursing process to achieve identified goals for VA Northern Indiana Health Care System. As a nursing leader, the Nurse Manager is responsible for the management of Nursing Practice and Nursing Operations within their defined areas of responsibility. He/she facilitates an interdisciplinary approach to high quality, cost effective and customer focused health care. The Nurse Manager directly supervises all nursing personnel in their defined area of responsibility and may supervise administrative staff in some settings. 1. Takes a leadership role in utilizing problem-solving methodologies to resolve system and/or process problems that impact on patient care or staff performance at the program or service level that is supported by documented evidence of:
a. Assuming responsibility for meeting an identified need; b. Developing and implementing the plan to meet the identified need; and c. Evaluating and providing evidence of improved patient care or staff performance relative to the identified need. 2. Demonstrates role modeling, leadership and advanced clinical expertise to improve the delivery of patient care through the use of the nursing process for patients requiring specialized/complex care. 3. Develops creative, innovative strategies to resolve problems and/or promote positive outcomes in collaboration with nursing/medical center leaders. 4. Collaborates with Case Managers, Clinical Specialist, other Nurse Managers and the Chief Nurse in the application of nursing process to improve outcomes for programs. 5. Utilizes creative problem solving methodologies to resolve problems that impact on patient care or staff performance. 6. Uses team approach to identify, analyze and resolve problems. 7. Identifies the need for new or revised policies, procedures, standards, or guidelines and assures the compliance. 8. Role models new practice changes to ensure improved patient care. 9. Takes a leadership role in initiating effective action in emergencies. Teaches others to anticipate and recognize potential emergent situations such as patients with disturbed behavior, life-threatening emergencies, internal or external disaster. 10. Follows and ensures that staff follows the established safety and infection control standards, policies and procedures. 11. Fosters critical thinking and self-direction in staff by guiding them through the steps of problems solving which results in staff's ability to independently and consistently manage similar situations in the future. 12. Delegates patient care duties and assignments based upon patient care needs and competencies of providers. Considers position descriptions, and functional statements in making assignments. 13. Manages nursing and other staff to ensure that both emergent situations and other unit activities are maintained. Teaches nursing interventions to others. 14. Complies with and ensures the staff adheres to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for reprocessing/cleaning Reusable Medical Equipment (RME). RME is classified as Critical Equipment - Class 1, Semi- Critical Equipment - Class 2, and Non-Critical - Class 3. RME cleaning will be done in accordance to the schedule on the unit. 15. Effectively assumes a leadership role for nursing, medical center or community. 16. Actively participates in ad hoc, nursing and/or hospital or VISN wide committees. 17. Ensures proper nursing documentation on all patients is in compliance with the VANIHCS. 18. Complies with and ensures the staff adheres to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for reprocessing/cleaning Reusable Medical Equipment (RME). 19. Role-specific Competency Checklist is complete and is rated competent in all measured areas. 20. Maintain the care provider-patient relationship where the patient and family is the central focus. 21. Maintain a relationship with self by nurturing self-knowing and self-care. 22. Deliver compassionate, quality care by ensuring interactions with all clinical disciplines are focused on establishing and maintaining healthy relationships. Work Schedule:

Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. -Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. -Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. BSN/MSN RN Management Experience 2-3 Years experience working with Palliative Care Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
-Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. -Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. -Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. -Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. -Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent is expected to use proper preventive technics to perform duties. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
